Having gone through the same school system in their hometown of Solon, Ohio, Ethan and Shruti don't technically know when they met.

December 2016: However, their story begins in 2016, during their senior year of high school. After some successful meddling from Shruti's friend Theo (now Mate of Honor), their first date was to see Moana in theatres.

January 22, 2017: They began "officially" dating in January 2017 after weeks of texting non-stop while Shruti was visiting family in India

In and out of the classroom, Shruti and Ethan had a lot of fun together! Their favorite hobbies together included baking, watching movies, and hanging out with friends. They watched Gilmore Girls together over text - timing the plays and pauses exactly so they could be in sync.

May 2017: Prom!

And shortly after, graduation!

Summer 2017: After only a few months of dating, the two quickly realized they would be facing the toughest challenge in their relationship yet: long distance. Ethan would be at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI while Shruti would be attending The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.

While this was certainly not ideal, the couple spent the next four and a half years long distance while they completed their degrees. They made the three hour journey frequently, and spent school holidays together at home in Solon, OH.

Together with her roommate and bridesmaid, Jenni, Shruti fostered cats, eventually adopting Hamby in 2020.

May 2021: After Ethan's graduation, Ethan and Shruti take a road trip from Solon to the Badlands National Park in South Dakota, visiting friends, family, and hiking spots along the way.

Fall 2021: Ethan moves to Boston, starting a graduate program in computer science at Northeastern University.

January 2022: Shruti and Hamby join Ethan in Boston after Shruti graduates in December. They finally were able to celebrate their 5th year anniversary living in the same place.

October 2023: Ethan and Shruti take a trip to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. The trip is almost ruined by a shoe lost in the mud. But it gets back on track and culminates with Shruti "pre-posing" to Ethan while watching the sunrise before they head home.

March 2024: Shruti and Ethan adopt a second cat together: Fig!

July 2024: Ethan proposes to Shruti at their favorite spot near their apartment: Jamaica Pond.

After getting married, together they start the next phase of their lives in an atypical way: Shruti will be moving to Ann Arbor to start her PhD at University of Michigan while Ethan stays in Boston to finish up his PhD before moving to join her.

Shruti and Ethan have seen each other through many phases of life and many versions of themselves, and are excited to journey into this next part of life together!
